I painted this mural a few years back. This mural is filled with native american symbolism which blends between sky, mountains, horse and sundancers. The mural is a representation of the sundance, a sacred right of the Lakota Souix. The visual images of the people standing on the cliff represent the sundancer. In the Lakota's sacred right sundancers go through harsh extremes as they dance for four days straight without food and water. During this ceremony sundancers give many sacrifices to the great spirit of flesh peircings and by sending prayers through the smoke of their pipes. Their are many hidden images of sacred animals in this peice, such as the formation of an eagles head in th rock face of the mountain, or the rear of the paint horse which has a white shape that is an eagles head. Try and find as many of these hidden images and meanings as you can in this mural.
I was very honored to paint this for the medicine people at Crazy Horse Farms who taught me many things about their own culture and gave me a better way to live life.
It is located in the private collection at Crazy Horse Farms. the mural is approximately, 8 x 12 ft in size. and painted with acrylic paint. I painted it back around 1993.
