Portrait Procedure: I will visit with you to discuss ideas for the portrait and assess your preferences and style—painting size, figure positions, where you intend to display the painting, etc. Clothing is an essential element of a portrait composition. We can discuss and select elements from your or your subject's wardrobe that will enhance the portrait. Occasionally I will encourage the purchase of special clothing for a portrait. Suitable backgrounds for the painting can be located in or around your home or city or developed in my studio if you prefer. I can work from a photo you select, or I will take several rolls and we will select the best photographs together. Also, location and travel permitting, I recommend that we conduct one or more sittings to allow me to sketch positions and backgrounds, and when the painting is nearly completed, to match skin tones more closely.
Materials: I use only the best archival paint and structural materials. The materials and workmanship of your painting are guaranteed - I will fix or replace your painting in the event of a material failure of structure or workmanship. Like the old master works, your painting should literally last for centuries. For paintings larger than 24x36 inches, stretched canvas or linen is necessary, but it is more fragile than painting on wood. If you prefer, I will gladly paint your painting on stretched canvas or linen in any size.
Framing: If you prefer, I can assist you in selecting an appropriate frame for matching particular display situations in your home, office, or another setting
